Soft Links

What is a soft link?

soft link is a reference to a test. It enables you to link existing tests to different suites.

How do I create a soft link?

Simply use drag&drop and select 'create soft link'. Alternatively, copy one or more tests and then use the 'Paste soft link' option using the right click menu.

How can I use soft links to improve my testing?

There are several different scenarios in which soft links can be used. For example:
  1. Using a Sanity suite which includes 'must-have' test for each release:
    • Create a suite called Sanity
    • Drag all 'must-have' tests into the Sanity suite as soft links
    • Assign the Sanity suite to testers in Lab view
  2. Creating a virtual group of tests, e.g. for a specific release:
    • Add a new suite, e.g. 'release 1.2'
    • Drag tests into new suite as soft links
    • Assign new suite to testers in Lab view
    • Mark this suite as requirement to track its status on the Requirements tab

What happens when I edit the test / soft link?

A soft link is simply a reference to a test. If you edit the test, the soft link will update automatically and vice versa. Updating the soft link will update the test.

When I delete a soft link, would my test get deleted too?

No. When you delete a soft link, you simply remove the reference. However, please note that if you delete a test, all its soft links will automatically disappear.
